General Assembly Debate on Security Council Veto of Resolution on Gaza Ceasefire

The General Assembly today holds a debate on the use of the veto at the 10,000th meeting of the Security Council, held on 18 September 2025 in connection with the item titled "The situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question", as a result of the 15-member organ's failure to adopt a resolution on the matter, due to a veto by the United States. The Council resolution would have called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the release of all hostages and for Israel to immediately and unconditionally lift all restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid into the enclave.
