HANNIBAL - The public is invited to an informational meeting to learn about the conceptual study of U.S. Route 63 corridor improvements in Schuyler and Adair counties, located between the Iowa state line and 2.1 miles north of Route KK, south of Kirksville. For the convenience of the public, two public meetings are planned in Adair and Schuyler counties at the following locations:
Details about the study will be shared at the meetings through displays and discussions with Missouri Department of Transportation engineers and representatives from consultant firms Hg Consult Inc. and Bartlett & West. The meeting will be conducted in an open-house format with no formal presentation. Attendees may arrive at any time between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
"The study will review the 33-mile section of the corridor to evaluate opportunities for adding passing lanes and/or shared four-lane improvements and other roadway improvements", explained Missouri Department of Transportation Project Manager Zach Walker.
The study is partially funded through a federal grant as part of a Community Project Funding Request. Details are available on Congressman Sam Graves' website at
https://graves.house.gov/services/community-project-funding-requests as well as in the project funding certification letter: https://graves.house.gov/sites/evo-subsites/graves.house.gov/files/evo-media-document/us-63-community-project-funding-certification-letter.pdf.
The study is anticipated to be complete by Fall of 2026. At that time, it will provide an approximate cost estimate for construction of future improvements. A timeline for implementation will not be determined, as there is no current funding for the construction of improvements.
For those unable to attend the meeting in person, please visit the project website at https://www.modot.org/projects/us-route-63-conceptual-study-adair-and-schuyler-counties to view project information and submit comments online from May 12, 2026, through May 25, 2026. All meeting materials will be posted on the project web page following the in-person meetings.
"We encourage anyone interested in receiving project updates to sign up here: Customer Service Signon (mo.gov)," Walker added.
