(January 8, 2025) Topping-out ceremony marks progress on Clements Ferry Pavilion

CHARLESTON, S.C. (Jan. 8, 2025) - MUSC Health leaders gathered with teams from Choate Construction Company, The Keith Corporation and McMillan Pazdan Smith at a topping-out ceremony today to celebrate a significant milestone for the future Clements Ferry Pavilion in Charleston. Once complete, the medical office space will provide increased access to care for those in the surrounding communities and bring medical specialties closer to home. The topping-out event involved placement of the structure's final steel beam atop the building to mark the completion of the facility's structural phase.

"We are marking the hard work that has gone into construction of another state-of-the-art addition to the MUSC presence with an invaluable local impact," said Eugene Hong, M.D., chief physician executive, MUSC Physicians and MUSC Health. "We are looking ahead to the future - one that is brighter for the people of the community and region, who will benefit from the extraordinary work going on at MUSC."

The four-story, 80,000-square-foot medical office building will be located on 10 acres of land at 1101 Waterline Street, off Clements Ferry Road. The facility will offer a range of medical services across nearly a dozen specialties. Some of these services include:

  • Adult and Pediatric Primary Care
  • An advanced imaging center
  • Gastroenterology
  • Heart and Vascular care
  • A multispecialty clinic (including Surgery, Rheumatology, Endocrinology, Neurology and Neurosurgery)
  • Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Oncology and Infusion services
  • Ophthalmology
  • Orthopedics
  • Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy

As part of the topping-out ceremony tradition, key stakeholders and the Choate project team signed the final beam to symbolize the success of their collaboration and celebrate the progress of the structure that will positively benefit the surrounding community.

"We're honored to be working alongside MUSC Health and our longtime partners at The Keith Corporation to bring this much-needed medical care facility to the community," said Quinn Balderson, director of business development for Choate Construction in Charleston. "The need for better access to quality medical care is great in many of our communities, and we're grateful to support MUSC Health in its mission of providing best-in-class medical services to those in need."

The Clements Ferry Pavilion project is on schedule and expected to open in late 2025. For more information about this project, please visit MUSCHealth.org/CFP.
