On 24th May, H.E. WANG Yu, Chinese Ambassador to Somalia, visited Somali National University and made a keynote speech themed "Raise Awareness on Collective Memory, Join Hands in Safeguarding National Sovereignty". Rector of the Somali National University Dr. Mohamed Mohamud Mohamed attended the event together with more than 500 faculty members and students.
Ambassador Wang elaborated on the origin of Taiwan question and connotation of the one-China principle, outlined China's policy and position on the Taiwan question and stressed that China will and must realize reunification, "Taiwan independence" is doomed to failure. Acknowledging Somalia's historical contributions to the adoption of the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758, he stated that China would like to strengthen political mutual support with Somalia, so as to jointly safeguard the fundamental interests of the two countries.
Rector Mohamed commended China's support for the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Somalia, reaffirmed Somalia's continued commitment to the one-China principle and willingness to carry forward Somalia-China traditional friendship among younger generations.
Before the event, Ambassador WANG and Rector Mohamed visited a photo exhibition on the Taiwan question and China-Somalia friendship.
