Senate Passes Bartolotta’s Bill to Protect Vehicle Choice in Pennsylvania

HARRISBURG - With bipartisan support, the Senate this week passed legislation sponsored by Sen. Camera Bartolotta (R-46) to prohibit future vehicle mandates in Pennsylvania.

Senate Bill 990 would protect Pennsylvanians' ability to choose their preferred vehicle by preserving future state mandates on specific vehicle purchases. This protects consumer choice, encourages innovation, and helps prevent higher costs associated with uniform mandates. The bill supports a comprehensive approach to transportation that includes gas and diesel-powered vehicles, hybrids, electric vehicles, and emerging technologies, allowing new advancements to develop and compete.

"With the Senate's approval of this bill, we are reaffirming that Pennsylvanians deserve more choices, not fewer," Bartolotta said. "Government mandates too often pick winners and losers, drive up costs for families and stifle innovation. This legislation protects consumer freedom and ensures emerging technologies can compete and evolve on their own merits."

The bill now moves to the House of Representatives for consideration.
