This initiative aims to bring local art into outdoor setting with an opportunity for artists to showcase their work. The City worked with Steven White, a local artist and freedom of speech advocate, to create the program and work out logistics.
Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve contributed $2,000 in discretionary funds to support the program, while Ward 2 Councilmember Naomi Duerr provided $1,000 in discretionary funding.
"I'm so proud to support this initiative for our local artists, and I'm looking forward to seeing it provide a space for artistic expression," said Councilmember Duerr. "This program goes beyond art by activating our public spaces, creating a special connection between art and the outdoors."
Interested artists can sign-up to display their artwork during the events by using the Art in the Park registration page. All artists must be present while displaying their art. In addition to displaying art, artists will be able to sell their artwork on-site.
Artists do not need to pay a fee or have a license to display or sell artwork. "Mushroom" displays will be set up at the park for use, but are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
