Shri Pabitra Margherita, Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, [ MoS (PM)] paid an official visit to Malaysia from April 18-19, 2025.
2. MoS (PM) inaugurated the India-ASEAN Tourism Pavilion at the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Fair in Kuala Lumpur, which was held as a part of the ASEAN-India Year of Tourism being celebrated in 2025. He also held a meeting with over 80 tourism professionals, including 45 from India and the remaining from ASEAN Member States and Timor Leste. This was held in partnership with Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC), and highlights the vast tourism potential in India, with special focus on Northeast India.
3. During the visit, MoS (PM) met with Datuk Mohamad bin Alamin, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs; H.E. Mr. Kulasegaran Murugeson, Deputy Minister, Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reforms); and H.E. Mr. Liew Chin Tong, Deputy Minister for Investment, Trade and Industry. These meetings reviewed the progress on implementation of initiatives announced during the visit of H.E. Mr. Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, to India in August 2024, and also the way forward to build new areas of cooperation to fully realise the comprehensive strategic partnership.
4. MoS (PM) also engaged with representatives of the Consortium of Indian Industries in Malaysia (CIIM) and the Malaysia-India Business Council (MIBC). He further met with members of the Indian community, including those from the Northeast India resident in Malaysia.
5. This visit further strengthened the growing cooperation under the India-Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established in August 2024.
