Congresswoman Ross Joins Colleagues in Demanding Pay for TSA, FEMA, Coast Guard Amid DHS Shutdown

Washington, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Deborah Ross (NC-02) signed a discharge petition that would force the House of Representatives to vote on legislation that would fund the TSA, FEMA, Coast Guard, CISA, and other Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agencies that are not involved in executing the Trump administration's cruel and unconstitutional immigration policies. This bill would ensure certain federal employees are paid amid the DHS partial government shutdown.

"While Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans refuse to negotiate in good faith on necessary reforms to ICE and CBP, hardworking federal employees in North Carolina and across the country are paying the price," said Congresswoman Ross. "These civil servants show up every day to keep our communities safe and respond to disasters, and now they are being forced to work without pay. Their livelihoods and the wellbeing of the American people should not be held hostage to advance an extreme agenda. If the Republican leadership won't bring this bill to the floor, then it's time for a few Republicans to step up, do the right thing, and sign this discharge petition."
