Foreign Ministry Continues Consular Assistance and Protection for Mexican National Injured During Detention in Saint Paul, Minnesota

On January 8, a Mexican national was detained in Saint Paul, Minnesota, by immigration agents. He was hospitalized and underwent surgery for injuries he had when admitted, which he reported occurred during his arrest.

The Mexican Consulate in Saint Paul went to the hospital to monitor his condition. Consular officials remain in contact with the Mexican national, who is now recovering at home, and with his attorney to guide the legal strategy, in order to determine and delineate the responsibilities arising from this delicate situation.

The consulate has requested a thorough investigation of the incident from immigration authorities and has conveyed the Mexican Government's deep concern through diplomatic channels.

Consular support will continue in this case, particularly regarding medical care and legal representation, and all available legal resources will be utilized.
