UPDATE: I-57/74 interchange ramp closures schedule

UPDATE: The northbound I-57 to westbound I-74 ramp will close starting June 2 at 10 p.m. and will last three weeks.

CHAMPAIGN - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that the eastbound Interstate 74 to northbound Interstate 57 ramp, the westbound I-74 to northbound I-57 ramp and northbound I-57 to Olympian Drive ramp closed starting May 26.

All ramps are expected to be closed for four weeks. Motorists should continue as follows:

  • Eastbound to northbound motorists should continue to take the eastbound to northbound exit to head south for detour.
  • Westbound to northbound motorists should continue to take the westbound to northbound exit to head south for detour.

The closures are necessary as work progresses on the final stages of the $251.8 million upgrade project. This work involves tying all new ramps and bridges into the newly constructed I-57 and I-74 lanes with permanent connections.

Similar ramp closures on the I-57/74 interchange will occur for up to four weeks each following this estimated schedule: (Closures are weather dependent and subject to change.)

  • The westbound I-74 to northbound I-57 ramp closed 5.26.26
  • The northbound I-57 to Olympian Drive ramp closed 5.26.26

  • The eastbound I-74 to southbound I-57 ramp, July 23-Aug. 20.
  • The southbound I-57 to eastbound I-74 ramp, July 23-Aug. 20.
  • The southbound I-57 to westbound I-74 ramp, June 24-July 22.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
