Priority question for written answer P-000780/2026
to the Commission
Rule 144
Mélissa Camara (Verts/ALE)
Article 3(5) of the Treaty on European Union (TEU) establishes that the Union, in its relations with the wider world, shall contribute to peace, security and strict observance of international law, including respect for the principles of the United Nations Charter. What is more, the EU consistently restates its commitment to multilateralism and the United Nations' central role in global governance.
According to publicly available information, Commissioner Šuica attended the first meeting of Donald Trump's Board of Peace, which is presented as an organisation that exists in parallel or in competition with the United Nations.
The Commissioner's attendance in an official capacity could be seen as politically ambiguous in the light of the EU's commitment to the multilateral system based around the United Nations.
Can the Commission clarify the context, mandate and objectives of the Commissioner's participation in the meeting? Can it explain how that participation is fully in line with the obligations stemming from Article 3(5) TEU and the EU's consistent position of support for the UN's central role?
