Rep. Cherfilus-McCormick Releases Statement on Republican Shutdown

"At midnight, government funding expired. This is deeply disheartening. While shutdowns are not new, each time it happens, it sends the same painful message: too often, leaders in Washington put ego and politics ahead of the people we are meant to serve.

"The American people should never have to suffer because Republicans, who control Congress, cannot come together on the most basic priorities-like ensuring affordable healthcare and protecting the jobs that sustain working families.

"I cannot stand by and support a short-term Republican continuing resolution that does not lower healthcare costs for Americans.

"My district will feel the weight of this shutdown through cuts to healthcare and furloughs, and I will continue fighting to make sure their voices are heard. This is about dignity, security, and ensuring every family has the opportunity to live a better life."
