SCO Secretary-General Meets with the Ambassador of Kuwait

On August 27, 2026, at the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in Beijing, Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev met with Jassem Ibrahim Al-Najem, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Kuwait to the People's Republic of China. The meeting took place at the initiative of the Kuwait's side on the occasion of the conclusion of the Ambassador's mission in China.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the prospects of Kuwait's participation in SCO activities as a Dialogue Partner.

The Secretary-General expressed his gratitude to the Ambassador for his personal contribution to the development of cooperation between Kuwait and the SCO, for the active participation of the diplomatic mission in events held under the auspices of the Secretariat in Beijing, and wished him success in his future endeavors.

On September 16, 2022, the Council of Heads of State of the SCO adopted a Decision to grant the State of Kuwait the status of SCO Dialogue Partner. The Memorandum on granting Kuwait the status of SCO Dialogue Partner was signed on May 5, 2023.
