Arlington, VA, April 4, 2025 - Writing infection prevention and control (IPC) policies just got a lot easier for healthcare professionals in long-term care settings.
The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) today announced an expansion of PolicyPro - an IPC policy library and management system created by APIC and infection preventionist (IP) experts. This subscription-based policy management platform allows healthcare organizations and agencies to customize, adopt, and manage evidence-based IPC policies within their organizations.
Available for purchase as a stand-alone product or as an extension for current PolicyPro subscribers, APIC has introduced a new collection of Long-Term Care (LTC) policies and procedures. These policies are specifically designed to meet the unique needs of long-term care facilities, ensuring they have comprehensive, up-to-date IPC policies to protect residents and staff from infections.
LTC facilities face distinct infection prevention challenges due to their residents' chronic health conditions, weakened immune systems, and communal living environments, increasing the risk of infectious disease outbreaks.
PolicyPro is available as an annual subscription and housed on a custom-built tech platform. The initial collection of 28 pre-written policies was designed for hospitals, with the new LTC collection now joining the growing library. Each policy template is fully referenced, with instructions throughout on ways to customize and add specificity. Future policy collections for ambulatory care are in development and will be available later in 2025.
"Unlike other policy management systems, APIC PolicyPro has been developed by APIC experts - it's written for IPs, by IPs," said APIC President Carol McLay, DrPH, MPH, RN, CIC, FAPIC, FSHEA. "With the addition of the new Long-Term Care collection, PolicyPro continues to expand its tailored resources, helping facilities ensure they have robust IPC policies in place."
PolicyPro content is reviewed and updated on an ongoing basis to ensure it reflects the latest guidance and regulations. As additional policies are developed, they are added to the online library, so subscribers have access to them as they are published.
