AHLA Statement on Proposed Shut Down of Customs and Immigration Processing at Major Cities

WASHINGTON DC (May 27, 2026) - The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA), today issued the following statement on the proposal from the Department of Homeland Security to halt customs processing in sanctuary city airports:

"The American Hotel & Lodging Association has serious concerns and strongly opposes reported plans to halt customs and immigration processing at international airports in major U.S. cities. This proposal would inflict significant harm on the American travel economy and workers, small businesses, and communities that depend on it.

"Major airports serve far more than a single city. They are critical gateways for entire regions. The impacts would not be isolated. They would be felt across the entire country. We urge the administration to abandon this proposal immediately."
