On May 6, 2026, Consul General of China in Johannesburg, Mr. Pan Qingjiang, attended the wheelchair donation programme in Atteridgeville, Tshwane, which was hosted by the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) in collaboration with the Chinese Consulate General and Reamogetswe Khaya Disability and Outreach. About 200 people including the Speaker Ms. Morakane Mosupyoe, members and officials from GPL, representatives of civil organizations, and community residents were present.
In his speech, Mr. Pan spoke highly of the time-honored friendship between China and South Africa. He emphasized that both countries attach great importance to people's livelihoods at the grassroots level and that it is the responsibility of every member of society to care for and support the disadvantaged. He hoped that the donation, as an amicable gesture towards South African people, would help improve the living conditions of the disabled and promote an inclusive social environment.
Speaker Mosupyoe and community representatives thanked the Chinese Embassy and Consulate General for the generous donation, an act reflecting the close people-to-people bond, and expressed the commitment to carrying forward the friendship between the two countries.
