MUSCLE SHOALS - Today, U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) attended the ribbon cutting ceremony of a new submarine manufacturing facility opening in Cherokee, Alabama. Hadrian's 2.2 million square foot site will mass produce components for Virginia-class attack submarines and Columbia-class ballistic missile submarines. The Navy secured $900 million for the project through the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB), which will be combined with $1.5 billion in private capital. It is estimated that the new facility will bring more than 1,000 high-paying jobs to Alabama.
As Alabama's representative on the Senate Armed Services Committee, Sen. Tuberville fought hard to secure funding for this project through OBBB and then to bring it home to Muscle Shoals. He previewed it last week during his speech to the Huntsville Chamber of Commerce. He was honored to be joined at the ribbon cutting by Secretary of the Navy John Phelan, U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-AL), along with other officials.
"It's been less than a year since President Trump signed his Executive Order titled 'Restoring America's Maritime Dominance,'" said Senator Tuberville. "And here we are today cutting the ribbon on this new manufacturing facility that will change shipbuilding forever. We are no longer limited by shipyards and coastline. We will build submarines, at least pieces of them, in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Alabama is already a leader in space, defense, and cyber technology and now we'll be leading the way in restoring America's maritime dominance."
Senator Tommy Tuberville represents Alabama in the United States Senate and is a member of the Senate Armed Services, Agriculture, Veterans' Affairs, HELP, and Aging Committees.
