Winter Weather is Coming. Here’s What You Need to Know.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (January 23, 2026) - Be prepared.

When snow-covered roads impede traffic, the City will dispatch the plows. To help clear the streets as swiftly as possible, residents are encouraged to follow these tips:

  1. Remove vehicles from roadways to create a clear path for the plows.
  2. Keep sidewalks clear and shoveled.
  3. Do not shovel snow back into the streets, which can cause blockages and hazards.
  4. Vehicles MUST be removed from designated Snow Emergency Routes when the roads are snow-covered.
  5. The New Brunswick Parking Authority makes designated parking garages available, free of charge, to City residents for vehicles to park while the plows are working their routes. See the map detailing available parking garages here.
  6. To receive Nixle alerts about the activation of Snow Emergency Routes (and other City alerts), TEXT your zip code to 888777 to opt-in and sign up.
  7. Check the City's website and social media platforms (Facebook and X) for the opening of warming centers and Code Blue shelters.
