The Certified Municipal Official program recognizes elected officials who demonstrate a commitment to professional development and effective municipal leadership. To earn the designation, officials must complete 60 hours of approved training, including in-person instruction and coursework in ethics, finance, governance, the Texas Open Meetings Act and the Texas Public Information Act.
Mayor Pro Tem Hughes said the training strengthens her ability to serve the community and make informed decisions on behalf of DeSoto residents. "Serving the residents of DeSoto is both an honor and a responsibility. Continuing my education through the Texas Municipal League helps ensure I am making informed decisions that benefit our community today while helping prepare DeSoto for the future. I remain committed to learning, growing, and serving our residents to the best of my ability."
Councilmember North said earning the designation reinforces her commitment to thoughtful, transparent leadership and the continued well-being of DeSoto residents and employees. "Earning the Certified Municipal Official designation helps me serve our community with deeper purpose and greater clarity. It ensures that the decisions we make are thoughtful, transparent, and centered on the well being of our residents. It also ensures I am making informed decisions that benefit our community today while helping prepare DeSoto for the future. This commitment is reflected in recognitions like the Bronze Bell Seal for Workplace Mental Health, which underscores our dedication to fostering a supportive and encouraging environment for our employees. I remain committed to learning, growing, and serving our residents to the best of my ability-advancing economic opportunity, nurturing safe and vibrant neighborhoods, and ensuring an equitable quality of life for everyone in DeSoto."
