Ibrahimović attends online meeting of foreign ministers: Montenegro strongly supports freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and de-escalation of tensions

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović participated in an online meeting of foreign ministers, at the invitation of UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, regarding the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz. The meeting brought together representatives of more than 40 countries, as well as key international partners, including the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the European Union.

During the discussions, participants addressed the serious consequences of the current disruptions to transport in the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing its critical importance for global trade, energy security, and supply chains.

It was jointly assessed that Iran's actions, which have resulted in restrictions on transit through the strait, represent a serious violation of the principle of freedom of navigation and a direct threat to the stability of the global economy. It was noted that such actions further deepen market uncertainty and may have significant consequences for countries that depend on stable supply chains.

Participants considered a range of coordinated steps, including intensifying diplomatic efforts, strengthening cooperation within multilateral frameworks, and implementing measures aimed at supporting the safety and continuity of maritime traffic. Particular attention was given to ensuring the safe passage of vessels and crews currently affected by the situation.

Montenegro remains ready to contribute, in cooperation with international partners, to the de-escalation of tensions and the restoration of uninterrupted traffic through the strait, while consistently advocating for freedom of navigation and full respect for international law.
