By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:
WHEREAS, CommonHealth, the Commonwealth of Virginia's employee wellness program, was established in 1986 to promote healthy lifestyles, improve employee well-being, and foster a culture of wellness throughout state government; and
WHEREAS, Virginia became the first state in the nation to establish a comprehensive employee wellness program, demonstrating a longstanding commitment to the health and well-being of its public workforce; and
WHEREAS, today, more than 500 Commonwealth and local government agencies participate in active CommonHealth programs that encourage healthy behaviors, reduce health risks, and support the physical and mental well-being of employees; and
WHEREAS, CommonHealth's programs are delivered through the dedicated efforts of 10 wellness consultants and more than 600 volunteer agency coordinators, whose leadership and service help cultivate healthier workplaces across the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, CommonHealth offers a wide range of onsite and virtual educational opportunities, resources, and wellness initiatives focused on nutrition, physical activity, stress management, preventive care, and overall health; and
WHEREAS, for four decades, CommonHealth has empowered Virginia's public employees to make informed, healthy lifestyle choices, strengthening both individual well-being and the Commonwealth's workforce;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Abigail D. Spanberger, Governor, do hereby recognize the month of October as the 40th ANNIVERSARY OF COMMONHEALTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all of our citizens.
