Previously deported Sureños-13 gang member faces federal prosecution

INDIO, Calif. - On May 4, U.S. Border Patrol agents from the El Centro Sector arrested a previously deported illegal criminal alien Mexican in Indio who has a violent criminal history, including a conviction for second-degree murder.

Agents from the Indio Station arrested a documented Sureños-13 gang member outside the John J. Benoit Detention Center after local authorities honored an immigration detainer and turned him over to the agents after serving 12 years for the second -degree murder conviction.

In addition to the murder conviction, the gang member has an extensive criminal history including being a felon in possession of a firearm, taking a vehicle without consent, battery and providing false identification to a peace officer. He is facing federal prosecution for reentry after deportation.
