FVSU Named #1 Public HBCU in Georgia for Eighth Straight Year and #1 in Social Mobility

Fort Valley, GA - September 23, 2025 - Fort Valley State University (FVSU) continues to Celebrate Excellence, earning the ranking of #1 public Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in Georgia for the eighth consecutive year and the #1 regional university in Georgia for social mobility, according to the 2026 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings.

FVSU has consistently ranked at the top in social mobility in recent years, reinforcing its focus to "Empower the Possible" and transform lives.

This year, FVSU achieved significant gains, compared to last year, in national categories:

· #3 Top Performers on Social Mobility - Regional Universities (South) (up from #8)

· #50 Overall - Regional Universities (South) (up from #62)

· #24 Top Public Schools - Regional Universities (South) (up from #30)

· #28 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (up from #35), placing FVSU among the Top 20 public HBCUs nationwide

"These rankings demonstrate the tremendous efforts by the FVSU community," said FVSU President Paul Jones, Ph.D. "For eight years in a row, we've held the top spot as Georgia's #1 public HBCU, and this year we advanced in every major category. These accomplishments are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students, faculty, staff and alumni, and to the transformative power of an FVSU education."

The social mobility ranking highlights how well universities graduate students who receive federal Pell Grants, awarded to students from lower-income households. FVSU's climb in this category underscores its mission to expand access, opportunity and economic advancement.
