Cincinnati Metro Receives $8 Million In Grant Funding for Hybrid-Electric Buses

Funds will be used to purchase ten new hybrid-electric buses.

CINCINNATI -
Cincinnati Metro is pleased to announce it has received $8 million in grant funding from the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments (OKI). The federal funds will be used to purchase ten new hybrid-electric buses, helping to further advance Metro's sustainability and innovative transportation efforts.

The grants have been provided through the Surface Transportation Block Grant Program (STGB), a federal initiative aimed at improving transportation infrastructure and services across the region. STGB funding supports projects that enhance mobility, reduce congestion, and promote a cleaner environment. Metro's successful application for this grant underscores its dedication to advancing sustainable transportation solutions.

"We are extremely grateful to OKI for their continued partnership," said Darryl Haley, CEO and General Manager of Metro. "This funding will enable us to expand our fleet with state-of-the-art hybrid-electric buses and supports a broader range of initiatives designed to reduce our environmental impact across all areas of operations."

"In the past five years, we are proud to have supported Metro with over $93 million in funding through various grant opportunities," said Mark Policinski, OKI CEO. "Metro's commitment to innovation aligns perfectly with OKI's mission to enhance our region's quality of life and economic vitality. We look forward to seeing these investments' positive impact on our community."

This grant comes on the heels of Metro's recent introduction of ten hybrid-electric vehicles to its fleet. Additionally, Metro received $3.8 million from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) earlier this year, specifically designated for the acquisition of four hybrid-electric buses. These investments demonstrate Metro's ongoing commitment to adopting innovative technologies and reducing its carbon footprint.
