Check out Oregon music

Eugene Public Library cardholders already enjoyed an enormous range of free music, both streaming with the Hoopla service and on CD in a large and popular collection. Now the library will curate a CD sub-section specifically to highlight Oregon music and make it easily accessible.

The new Oregon Music collection will be housed on the second floor of the Downtown Library for in-person browsing. The CDs will also be available to peruse and place hold requests in the online catalog under "Regional: Oregon." Initially, the local collection includes CDs the library already owned and has reclassified from other sections, including nearly 200 titles that were donated at the retirement of Skip Hermens, owner of Skip's Records and CD World.

The library invites Oregon bands, groups and individual musicians of all styles to donate CDs to be considered for the new collection. Community members are also welcome to provide CDs by Oregon musicians they would like included. Donated CDs must be new or gently-used. Drop off or mail CDs to Oregon Music Collection, Eugene Public Library, 100 West 10th Ave., Eugene, Oregon 97401.

"We're excited to shine this spotlight on local musicians, supporting their art and making it fun and easy for community members to discover and enjoy it," said Martha Sutherland, an Adult Services Supervisor at the library who proposed the idea. "And at the library, we're always enthusiastic about finding ways to encourage feelings of connection, belonging and civic pride."
