Gallery Exhibit Showcases City's NEW “Artists in Residency” Program

The City's free Public Art Gallery, which is located at the Johnny Arolofo Civic Center, has a new exhibit featuring works by local artists who applied to be a part of the City's Artists in Residency (AIR) program.

AIR is a new program that provides three amateur artists with free space inside a City building to use as a studio for nine months. In exchange, the artists teach free art classes for residents and participate in open house and gallery events. Nearly 20 local artists applied for the program and 3 were selected after a rigorous judging process involving members of the public and City staff.

All of the artists who applied for AIR, including the three that were selected, were asked to provide one or more pieces of their work to display as part of the current exhibit, which will run until the end of September. The gallery is open to the public Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to noon. Almost all of the pieces on display are for sale.

A public gallery reception, along with a meet and greet with the three resident artists, will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 18, at the Civic Center.
