WATCH: Nunn Hosts HUD Secretary Scott Turner at Iowa Build Site to Expand Access to Affordable Housing

"Every Iowan should be able to afford a home in the community where they're raising their family," said Rep. Nunn . "Homeownership is how families put down roots and build their future - but outdated federal rules and red tape are making it harder and more expensive to build new houses and maintain the housing stock we already have. That's why we passed the biggest housing reform package in a generation, and why I brought Secretary Turner straight to a Waukee job site to hear from Iowans. Now let's get this bill to the President's desk and turn it into lower costs and more homes for Iowa families."

During the visit, Nunn and Secretary Turner toured Habitat for Humanity homes under construction before sitting down with Iowa homebuilders, lenders, and housing leaders to discuss tackling the regulatory barriers and rising construction costs that make homes harder to build and harder to afford.

The visit follows House passage of the bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act , which includes Rep. Nunn's Rural Housing Service Reform Act - legislation aimed at modernizing outdated USDA housing programs, preserving affordable rural housing stock, expanding access to home repair assistance, and helping more Iowa families achieve the dream of homeownership.
