Orange County to Host Hazardous Waste Collection Events on May 16-17

Orange County will hold two hazardous waste collection events next month at the Delano Hitch Recreation Center, located at 401 Washington Street in Newburgh.

  • Friday, May 16th: Collection event for businesses, municipalities, schools, and farms (by appointment only).
  • Saturday, May 17th: Household Hazardous Waste and Operation Safe Scripts Pharmaceutical Collection event for residents.

Details for the Friday, May 16th Event (Businesses, Municipalities, Schools, and Farms):

  • Appointment required: Pre-registration is mandatory.
  • Registration deadline: Friday, May 2nd.
  • Cost: Disposal cost determined by the vendor based on type and quantity (up to 220 pounds per vehicle).
  • Drop-off: Times will be scheduled individually by the vendor.
  • How to register: Visit orangecountygov.com/efs and click on the "Hazardous Waste" tab to download the registration form.
    Note: Businesses, schools, municipalities, and farms cannot participate in the Saturday residential event.

Details for the Saturday, May 17th Event (Orange County Residents):

  • No appointment necessary.
  • Time: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Location: Delano Hitch Recreation Center Parking Lot, 401 Washington Street, Newburgh.
  • Requirements: Proof of Orange County residency (driver's license or utility bill).
  • Pharmaceutical collection: Orange County Sheriff's Deputies will be on-site to accept unwanted over-the-counter and prescription medications as part of Operation Safe Scripts.

Please note : 55-gallon drums or containers with similar volumes of waste will not be accepted at the residential event.
