'Suddenly, everything changed ': A New Educational Resource on the Second World War

On Wednesday, 11 June 2025, the Minister of Education, Children and Youth, Claude Meisch, visited the Hueflach Primary School in Strassen for the launch of a new teaching resource 'Suddenly, everything changed: Exploring the Second World War'.

The story follows Jeanne, Rose, Kurt and Charles - four friends who are just eight years old when Nazi Germany occupies Luxembourg. As their world changes around them, they struggle to understand what this means for their daily lives. Soon after the German invasion, their lives begin to change. The war, and the Nazi regime's oppressive policies, soon drive them apart... The four protagonists are the same age as the intended audience of the booklet 'Suddenly, everything changed: Exploring the Second World War'': pupils in Cycle 4 of basic education.

Each chapter of the booklet is followed by activities exploring themes such as oppression, freedom, peace, and the preservation of the memory of the Second World War. The new teaching resource encourages pupils to make connections between these themes and their everyday lives.

The educational booklet was developed in partnership by the Committee for the Remembrance of the Second World War (CM2GM) and the Zentrum fir politesch Bildung (ZpB). It is now available to all Cycle 4 classes in Luxembourgish, French, German and English. The digital version is available for download at the following address.
