GDOT Awards Contract to Resurface State Route 120

CARTERSVILLE, GA - Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) awarded a $3.6 million contract to C.W. Matthews Contracting CO. Inc., to resurface a section of State Route 120 in Paulding County. The contract was part of $48.8 million in contracts GDOT awarded across the state in February.

The project will stretch 9.4 miles from SR 101 to SR 6/Jimmy Campbell Parkway. Resurfacing the roadway will improve the road and help extend its life. The project is scheduled to be completed by January 31, 2027, and work is expected to begin in the next two to three months.

"This project and others like it in Northwest Georgia are important to maintaining a good state of repair on our state routes," said GDOT District Six Engineer Grant Waldrop. "Once the project is complete it will give motorists a smoother ride on SR 120 in Paulding County."

GDOT awarded two other contracts in Northwest Georgia totaling about $490,000:
  1. Upgrading railroad signage and pavement markings at various locations
  2. Upgrading pavement markings on Clear Creek Road in Dalton

Advisory: Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones. Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions. Call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app. Our maintenance team members who repair roads and bridges and our project teams who oversee construction projects are continuing their essential work, while following sanitary work practices prescribed by health agencies to protect themselves and the public from the coronavirus, as are most state DOTs in the U.S.
