The theme of the 10th Annual Napa County Water Conservation Video Contest, What's YOUR Water Story?, elicited great creativity, personal reflections, swimmers, boaters, lasers coming out of eyes, minecrafters, rappers, leaky faucets, paper cutouts, dried-up rivers, and a not insignificant number of cats. Among the contest-record 86 entries, Vintage High School students swept the top three prizes. Graduating senior Jarven Canones took 1st place and $1,500 for his 45-second video A More Water-Wise Yard. It can be seen up on the big screen as part of the pre-show program for all films at Century Napa Valley Theatre Friday, June 20 through Thursday, June 26.
Congratulations also go out to this year's 2nd place winner, graduating senior Stella Borzoni, for Where Salmon Once Swam which garnered her $1,000. The 3rd place prize of $500 went to Jasmine Hoskins for The Drying Vine. All three top videos will be used as public service announcements on Napa Valley TV Channels 27 and 28 over the coming weeks.
The contest was open to all 9th-12th graders in Napa County from March to May 2025. Contest sponsors included the Cities of Napa, American Canyon, St. Helena, and Calistoga, the Town of Yountville, NapaSan, Napa County, and the Napa County Resource Conservation District. Final judging was conducted by water conservation staff from the agencies. Full contest details and the top videos from the past decade can be viewed online at napawatersheds.org/videocontest.
