WASHINGTON, DC [1/3/25] - Today Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) released the following statement after being sworn in as a member of the 119th Congress.
This will be her seventh full term representing the people of Oregon's First Congressional District. The district boundaries include large portions of Multnomah and Washington Counties and all of Clatsop, Columbia, and Tillamook counties. Bonamici is now the longest-serving member of Oregon's current delegation.
"Representing NW Oregon in Congress is an honor and I'm grateful for the opportunity to continue working for Oregonians in our nation's Capitol," said Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici. "I will continue to focus on policies that improve the lives of the people I represent, including growing the economy, fighting climate change, protecting public education and reproductive health care, and lowering costs. At the same time, this new Congress begins as many in our country remain deeply divided, with a razor-thin House Republican majority and an incoming Administration that intends to upend government as we know it. We've been through this before, and I will again stand with those who are targeted and fight back. As a leader on the Education and Workforce Committee, I am particularly concerned about the Republicans' continued effort to dismantle our public education system, undermine the rights of workers, and fan the flames of culture wars. As the new dean of the Oregon delegation, I will do all I can to build relationships across the aisle to pass legislation that improves the lives of Oregonians. I understand that the people of NW Oregon need progress regardless of which party is in power."
