Gilbert, Ariz.- As part of its Phoenix Area Modernization Project, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recently released a Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) proposing new satellite-based departure flight procedures at Mesa Gateway Airport. Some of the proposed procedures could change where aircraft currently fly after takeoff, potentially routing flights over neighborhoods that have not historically been under departure flight paths.
Gilbert neighborhoods will not be impacted by these changes. While commercial airline traffic does not currently depart Gateway Airport westbound over Gilbert, corporate jet operations occasionally do based on regional air traffic conditions and will remain unchanged. In rare instances, Allegiant Airlines may use this westbound route in the future.
