Winter storm service changes: January 25-26, 2026

A winter storm will bring snow and frigid temperatures to our area this weekend. Our crews are already preparing by salting outdoor areas at stations, deploying snow-fighting equipment, and monitoring switches and tracks.

But we're also taking precautions to ensure trains and buses can operate safely, and there will be service changes on subways, buses, the Long Island Rail Road, and Metro-North Railroad this weekend. Keep reading to see those changes.

Our customers' safety is our top priority, and it may be safer to not travel on Sunday and Monday when the storm is expected to be at its worst. However, if you must travel, keep these things in mind:

  • Allow yourself extra travel time.
  • Use extra caution, especially on stairs, platforms, and when boarding or exiting trains and buses.
  • Check service status on the MTA or TrainTime apps, or on our website.
  • Chat with us in our apps if you have questions about service.

Stay safe, and thanks for riding with us.

Subway

Some express trains will make local stops this weekend in preparation for the winter storm. Many planned service changes have been canceled. Check the Weekender for the full list of changes.

Buses

Expect longer waits for local buses. We'll be pulling some buses from service to apply snow chains before the storm and removing articulated buses from service during the storm.

Long Island Rail Road

The LIRR will run on a modified Sunday schedule, with the following changes:

  • No service between Ronkonkoma and Greenport
  • Half-hourly service on the Babylon Branch

The following planned service changes have been proactively canceled for this weekend and into next week:

  • Brooklyn weekend service suspension
  • Kew Gardens, Forest Hills, Woodside westbound weekend bypassing
  • Montauk weekday overnight busing
  • Hempstead weekday midday westbound bypassing, Monday-only

Metro-North Railroad

Metro-North Railroad will operate hourly service on the Hudson, Harlem, and New Haven lines on Sunday. The New Canaan, Danbury, and Waterbury branches will run on their regular weekend schedules.

On Monday, trains will operate on a Saturday schedule with additional rush hour trains. Check the TrainTime app for details.
