WHEELING, W.Va., March 14 - Wheeling University will host the Rustic Mechanicals who will perform the Shakespeare classic, "A Midsummer Night's Dream" on Monday, March 16, inside Troy Theater.
This marks the second straight year the theater group will perform at Wheeling University. The production begins at 7 p.m. in Troy Theater, which is located inside Swint Hall on the Wheeling University campus. The play is open to members of the campus community and the public.
William "Butch" Maxwell, instructor of Communications and event organizer, said, "By bringing professional theatre to campus, we affirm that the arts are not extracurricular - they are central to forming thoughtful leaders prepared for lives of purpose and service."
Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" is a fast-paced romantic comedy filled with enchanted forests, mischievous fairies, mistaken identity, and the timeless chaos of young love.
Maxwell noted hosting the touring troupe and student performances is "part of our renewed commitment to the arts." Such productions, Maxwell said, are as essential to educating the whole student.
The Rustic Mechanicals are West Virginia's only professional touring Shakespeare company. The group is known for bringing accessible, high-energy productions to communities throughout the region.
Through the generous support of alumni and friends, those attending the production will see the renovations made to Troy Theater.
Admission is free for all Wheeling University students and employees with their Cardinal ID Card. Community members attending may purchase tickets in advance for $15, or $20 at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased by clicking this link.
