On Wednesday, Gitanas Nausėda received Alexander Hoffmann, Chairman of the Christian Social Union (CSU) Parliamentary Group of the German Bundestag.
The meeting focused on bilateral relations between Lithuania and Germany, current issues of European security and defense, and support for Ukraine.
The President noted that Lithuania and Germany are strategic partners and close allies whose ties continue to grow stronger. He thanked Germany for its long-standing commitment to the security of Lithuania and the entire region, emphasizing Germany's unique role in safeguarding peace in Europe, particularly on NATO's eastern flank.
"We appreciate Germany's leadership and firm commitment to strengthening security in our region, as demonstrated by the deployment of Germany's 45th Armored Brigade "Lithuania," its leadership of the NATO multinational battlegroup in Lithuania, and its participation in the air policing mission," the President underlined.
President Gitanas Nausėda stressed that Lithuania's top priority is preparing to host the German brigade in 2027. Commitments related to the brigade's permanent deployment are already being implemented ahead of schedule.
"Germany is an important ally of ours in arms cooperation. The value of Lithuania's procurement from Germany currently exceeds 2 billion euros. Together, we aim to expand cooperation in the defense industry, and Lithuania offers particularly favorable conditions for defense-related investments," the President pointed out.
Gitanas Nausėda also noted that the deployment of the German brigade creates a unique opportunity to further strengthen political, economic, and social ties between the two countries. According to the President, Lithuania places special emphasis on promoting the German language and culture.
Discussing support for Ukraine, Gitanas Nausėda underscored the need to continue mobilizing military and financial support for Ukraine, ensure fair burden-sharing among allies, and increase pressure on Russia.
