Defence Minister's meeting with the new Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Romania

On Tuesday, February 17, Minister of National Defence, Radu Miruță, received, at the MoND headquarters, a presentation visit by the new Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Romania, H.E. Ilyas Mehmood Nizami.

During the meeting, the two officials highlighted the good level of bilateral relations between Romania and Pakistan and discussed opportunities to enhance defence cooperation, with emphasis on consolidating political-military dialogue, exchanges of experience and contacts between relevant institutions.

Minister of National Defence stressed the importance of developing collaborative relations in areas of common interest, as well as Romania's willingness to identify new directions of cooperation, including in terms of military education, training and exchanges of best practices.

"Romania attaches great importance to dialogue and cooperation with its international partners, and Pakistan represents a relevant interlocutor. We express our willingness to continue developing defence bilateral relations, through concrete initiatives and by enhancing institutional contacts," the Romanian official said.

In his turn, the Pakistani ambassador reaffirmed the interest of the authorities in Islamabad in enhancing relations with Romania and in developing concrete cooperation projects, including in the field of the defence industry and regional security.

The dialogue proved both sides' openness, confirming the common commitment to deepening bilateral relations and continuing institutional dialogue
