Hanwha participated in the 23rd IISS Asia Security Summit, known as the Shangri-La Dialogue, held in Singapore from May 29 to 31.
Hanwha's participation reflects its growing role in the global defense landscape. As a serious voice contributing to the conversation on the future of defense industrial collaboration, Hanwha engaged with senior government officials from the United States, the United Kingdom, Singapore, and other countries, as well as leaders from global defense companies.
A defining theme at this year's summit was the reshaping of the global security architecture around capable allies. The United States called on partner nations to build their own defense capabilities and industrial bases while contributing more activity to regional and global security.
Hanwha is a partner in that effort to bring industrial capacity into allied economies. Rather than pursuing traditional export relationships, Hanwha is focused on helping allied nations build defense industrial capacity on their own soil, actively producing alongside partners.
A closely related theme was industrial capacity. Across the discussions, participants stressed the need to increase production capacity across allied nations, particularly in areas such as long-range strike. This framing has gained traction in other allied discussions as well, where the priority is building the collective industrial base that allies can draw on together.
The Shangri-La Dialogue brings together defense ministers, military chiefs, senior officials, and industry leaders from across the globe. While focused on Indo-Pacific security, the forum has become a stage for broader discussions on allied defense strategy, offering a neutral setting where governments and industry can engage on the issues shaping global security. Hanwha, with the ability to produce at scale across land and maritime defense platforms and AI technologies, is part of that conversation.
Hanwha Group President and Global Chief Strategy Officer Alex Wong said, "Hanwha deploys world-class advanced manufacturing technology, produces state-of-the-art defense platforms, and possesses a significant and expanding global footprint. The company is uniquely positioned to partner with nations urgently seeking to strengthen their defense capabilities and industrial bases."
