On January 22, at approximately 4:01 a.m., the Tallahassee Fire Department (TFD) responded to a structure fire on Supreme Court. Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy fire coming from a single-story residential structure. Firefighters immediately began extinguishing the fire while protecting the surrounding area. Unfortunately, one individual was found deceased on scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal's Office. The Tallahassee Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Tallahassee Police Department and Leon County EMS.
Later in the morning, at approximately 7:18 a.m., TFD was dispatched to a second structure fire, this time located on Hickory Woods Trail. Firefighters arrived to find a single-story residence with fire coming from the garage. Crews quickly began extinguishing the fire, containing it to the garage and preventing further damage to the home.
TFD was assisted on scene at Hickory Woods Trail by the Leon County Sheriff's Office and Leon County EMS.
TFD urges all residents to remain vigilant and proactive in fire prevention measures, including the installation of smoke alarms. Remember to check your smoke alarms to make sure they are in proper working condition, as smoke alarms can provide the early warning necessary to escape a deadly fire. A properly installed and maintained smoke alarm can alert you and your family to a fire 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
