USD Celebrates Community and Culture at the 40th Annual Linda Vista Multi-Cultural Fair & Parade
On Saturday, April 26, the University of San Diego proudly joined the 40th Annual Linda Vista Multi-Cultural Fair & Parade, where the theme "Food from the Heart" took center stage in a vibrant celebration of culture, community and cuisine. From traditional dishes to international flavors, the event showcased how food serves as a universal language of love and connection.
USD was well represented throughout the day's proceedings, including the annual parade where representatives from Athletics, Associated Student Government, Upward Bound and the Hahn School of Nursing marched in celebration of the neighborhood's rich diversity. Throughout the fair, visitors connected with the university through interactive booths hosted by the College of Arts and Sciences, Athletics, The Jacobs Institute for Innovation in Education, the Mulvaney Center, the Hahn School of Nursing and the School of Law Legal Clinics.

At the noon Welcome Ceremony, Associate Vice President for Community Engagement and Anchor Initiatives Chris Nayve captured the heart of the day's theme. "As a Filipino-American, 'Food from the Heart' resonates deeply with me. Food is an expression of love - it nourishes both body and soul, and brings people and cultures together," he shared.

Nayve also reflected on USD's deep ties to the Linda Vista community. "For over 75 years, USD has been fortunate to call Linda Vista home. The friendships we've built here are lasting and heartfelt."
The fair buzzed with cultural exhibits, lively performances and, of course, a wide variety of foods representing traditions from around the world. Highlights included a Lumpia Eating Competition at 2 p.m., bringing together participants in a joyful, light-hearted celebration of Filipino cuisine.
Nayve concluded by emphasizing the value of community experiences: "Some of the best learning happens outside the classroom. Today, Linda Vista teaches us once again that culture and community are inseparable."
