The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, received the President of the Portuguese Republic, António José Seguro, on his first official trip abroad since taking office on 9 March.

President Sánchez highlighted the excellent state of bilateral relations, as well as their shared commitment to democratic principles in the face of global challenges.

During the meeting, the President of the Government of Spain expressed his confidence in further strengthening economic cooperation between Spain and Portugal with the aim of promoting common interests and generating benefits for both countries' economies. He also cited the recent bilateral summit in Huelva, focused on climate change, as an example of this strong understanding, along with collaboration on issues such as wildfire prevention and joint preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
