Canaveral National Seashore Invites Public Feedback on Plans to Strengthen Storm Resilience in Playalinda District

TITUSVILLE, Fla. - In the wake of recent hurricane and king tide event damage, Canaveral National Seashore invites public comment on the National Park Service's plan to strengthen storm resilience and support visitor access in the Playalinda District.

The Playalinda District Storm Adaptive Management Plan will guide how Canaveral National Seashore prepares for stronger storms, rising visitation and increased launch activity along Florida's Space Coast. Through this plan, Canaveral National Seashore will maintain the protective function of dune systems and make informed decisions on infrastructure repair, redesign or removal. The park will also explore safer and more resilient options for roads, parking, boardwalks, beach access and visitor services.

"We are pleased to share the environmental assessment for the Playalinda District Storm Adaptive Management Plan for review," said Superintendent Carmen Thomson. "This plan reflects our ongoing work to respond to storm damage, improve resiliency of our facilities and ensure continued visitor access while protecting the dynamic coastal environment that makes the Playalinda District so special. Public input is an essential part of this process, and we encourage visitors, partners and community members to review the document and provide feedback as we work to shape a sustainable future for the district."

The public comment period will run from Sept. 4 to Oct. 4, 2026. Canaveral National Seashore welcomes input on the proposed strategies and alternatives for adaptive storm management detailed in the environmental assessment, which is available on the project website at parkplanning.nps.gov/playalinda-plan.

The park will hold a public meeting on Sept. 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Titusville Public Library to share more information, answer questions and receive public comments on

the EA. At the meeting, NPS staff will present the alternatives considered in the EA, explain how to submit comments, and answer questions about the plan. Meeting details are available at parkplanning.nps.gov/playalinda-plan.
