More than 1.4 million people across 15 provinces will directly benefit from a new $3.2 million allocation approved for Afghanistan by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Climate and Health Catalytic Fund. The funding, administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), is designed to strengthen climate and health interventions in vulnerable communities.
The resources will help bridge the gap between climate adaptation and public health by targeting TB and malaria among populations most affected by climate change, including:
"This funding marks a critical step in recognizing the intersection of climate and health," said Stephen Rodriques, UNDP Resident Representative in Afghanistan. "By integrating climate resilience into disease prevention and health systems, we are helping communities adapt and thrive in the face of environmental challenges."
Implemented in alignment with national priorities and in close coordination with partners, the Climate and Health Catalytic Fund ensures that all activities are data-driven, inclusive, and sustainable.
The grant is part of the broader Global Fund Grant Cycle 7, supporting Afghanistan's efforts to combat HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria while strengthening health systems. These additional resources reinforce UNDP's commitment to delivering impactful health solutions in complex operating environments.
