Dexter Calls on Noem to End Violent Escalation in Portland

PORTLAND, OR- Today, Congresswoman Maxine Dexter, M.D. (OR-03) urged Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to end the brutalization of peaceful demonstrators following violent escalation by federal troopsthis weekend at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) building in Southwest Portland.

"Trump is telling a story about Portland that is completely disconnected from reality. The only people terrorizing our city are Trump's federal agents, who used chemical crowd-control munitions against peaceful protesters this weekend. Portlanders have the right to protest without being met with military force and chemical weapons. Secretary Noem must immediately de-escalate this situation and withdraw federal troops from our neighborhoods."

In a letter sent to Secretary Noemand the ICE Directortoday, Dexter condemned the use of chemical agents against demonstrators and demanded an immediate end to the increased presence of federal troops in Oregon.
