Elk Grove, CA - January 8, 2025, the Boardroom at the Cosumnes CSD Administrative Office was filled with creativity and collaboration as residents attended a public art workshop with artist Sijia Chen. The workshop provided an opportunity for participants to learn about Chen's creative process for her upcoming public art project at the CORE Recreation Center.
During the interactive event, attendees engaged in a hands-on papercut workshop led by Chen, contributing their designs that may be incorporated into the final sculpture. This collaborative effort aims to reflect the unique stories and narratives of Elk Grove's diverse residents.
The upcoming column-shaped sculpture, envisioned by Chen, will stand as a cultural beacon for the Elk Grove community, capturing the essence of the community's rich history and commitment to an active lifestyle.
The workshop was well received, facilitating connections among community members and an appreciation for public art. Participants left inspired and excited to see how their contributions will shape the final artwork at the CORE Recreation Center.
The public is invited to visit CORE Public Art to learn more about this public art piece and to share ideas for elements to be included in the final design.
