Be a part of the Merrill Field Airport Master Plan

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA - Merrill Field Airport (MRI) is launching its 20-year Airport Master Plan to guide future investments, support safe and efficient operations, and reflect the needs of airport users and the Anchorage community.

The public is invited to attend a Community Open House on Thursday, Oct. 15, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to review the planning process, learn how future airport needs will be evaluated, and share input that will help shape the plan.

As aviation activity continues to evolve, long-term planning is essential to understand future demand, identify infrastructure needs, and prioritize capital improvements at MRI. The planning process evaluates existing airport conditions alongside forecasted aviation activity to help determine future facility and operational needs.

"The Master Plan provides the basis for a thoughtful and strategic approach to meeting the future needs of our airport users and our community," said Earl Malpass, Airport Manager. "This effort will help ensure that our airport continues to provide a vital economic link for our businesses and users, as well as a critical lifeline for remote communities accessing needed goods and healthcare services."

The FAA requires airports to develop a 20-year Airport Master Plan to support appropriate and orderly planning of future facilities and infrastructure. The Airport Master Plan is a federally regulated and funded process designed to project future levels of aviation activity and identify associated capital programs required over the next 20 years. Recommended improvements must comply with federal and state regulations, as well as airport design standards. The Master Plan will serve as a guide for addressing infrastructure needs while helping ensure that the airport continues to operate in a safe, efficient, and effective manner that reflects community values.

Community members may also submit comments through the project website. Public input will help inform the planning process and guide recommendations for future airport facilities, infrastructure, and operations.
