Henderson Fire Department Invites Aspiring Female Firefighters to Women in Fire Service Workshop

Free Workshop Will Prepare Female Participants for a Career as a Henderson Firefighter

HENDERSON, Nev.(Feb. 24, 2026) - Women interested in careers in firefighting or emergency medical services are invited to take part in a hands-on Women in Fire Service workshop hosted by the Henderson Fire Department on Saturday, April 11, from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.at the Fire Training Center.

The free workshop introduces participants to the physical and mental job requirements of a Henderson firefighter. The workshop will feature classroom lectures, physical agility exercises and hands-on training with firefighting equipment, including:

  • Fire Hose Training: attendees will learn how to properly handle and maneuver a firehose
  • Extrications: attendees will use hand tools and other apparatuses for extrication exercises
  • Aerial Ladder Climb: attendees will climb a 100-foot aerial ladder
  • Protective Gear and Air Management: attendees will perform a series of drills using turnout gear and SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus) Air Packs
  • Life-Saving Skills: attendees will learn CPR and bleeding control techniques such as Stop the Bleed

The Women in the Fire Service workshop is designed for women 18 years and older to show that, with proper training and preparation, the physical demands of firefighting are attainable while upholding the same safety and performance expectations required of all firefighters. The workshop also aims to build awareness and promote diverse recruitment and employment within the Henderson Fire Department.

Registration is limited to the first 50 women and will close when full or on March 31, whichever comes first.
