MoDOT: Project to Upgrade Signals along Chestnut Expressway (Loop 44) in Springfield

Springfield - A project to upgrade sidewalks and signals to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements along Chestnut Expressway (Loop 44/Business 65) in Springfield and modify the turn lane at Chestnut Expressway (Business 65) to southbound Route 65, to begin the week of March 9th, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

At times, driveways and business entrances may be gravel as crews remove sections of sidewalks to install new pavement. Contractor crews, working in collaboration with the businesses, are ensuring that access to all businesses remains open during the work. Drivers are urged to exercise caution when traveling over gravel, such as at driveways and business entrances, to ensure a safe arrival at their destinations.

Here's a look at the project:

• Contractor crews upgrading sidewalks and signals to conform to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements, including replacing sidewalks, removing sidewalks, installing crosswalks, curb, gutter, and curb ramps, removing entrances, updating pedestrian signals, pavement marking, and updating signs
• Upgrade signals along Chestnut Expressway (Loop 44/Business 65) at the following locations:
• • Grant Avenue
  • Jefferson Avenue
  • Ingram Mill Road
  • U.S. Route 65
  • Eastgate Avenue
• Install a median on the southbound Route 65 to Chestnut Expressway (Business 65) exit ramp to separate the left and right turning lanes on the ramp
• Drivers may encounter flaggers and lane drops where crews are working

Weather and/or construction delays will alter the work schedule.

D&E Plumbing & Excavating, Springfield, is undertaking the work for a low bid amount of $1.48 million.

The project is scheduled for completion by November 30, 2026.
