NTA Revamp: The National Testing Agency (NTA) is currently working to completely overhaul its examination system through various efforts intended to enhance the quality of question paper preparation, security during the examination process, and general transparency. These reforms are in the form of a four-step examination paper review process, the dismissal of about 600 experts from existing panels, and hiring of new experts. Other reforms will include greater security measures, including CISF security for NTA offices.
The reforms come after concerns and controversies surrounding several major national examinations, including NEET-UG and UGC-NET. The latest measures are intended to strengthen the examination process and rebuild confidence among students and the wider academic community.
The table below summarises the major NTA reforms
|
Key Reform Pillar |
Official Action Taken / Planned |
|
Question Paper Scrutiny |
Introduction of a 4-tier paper verification system to eliminate factual, translation, and typographical errors. |
|
Panel Experts Reshuffle |
600 experts removed from the exam team; new subject-matter experts onboarded. |
|
Official Staffing Expansion |
20 to 25 officials to be inducted in 2-3 weeks, with broader manpower plans reviewed. |
|
Physical Security Protocols |
Office relocation to new premises under CISF security protection on a war footing. |
|
Administrative & Legislative Actions |
Crackdown following 47 terminations in July 2026 and passage of the Public Examinations Amendment Bill. |
Under the newly instituted quality control framework, examination papers will undergo four independent layers of verification and scrutiny before being finalized and sent for printing or digital distribution.
This multi-level check aims to eradicate translation mismatches between English and Hindi/regional languages, as well as typographical or factual mistakes. The action comes immediately after the NTA was forced to announce re-examinations for the June 2026 UGC-NET in Sociology, English, and Commerce due to severe paper defects.
To rebuild the core confidential architecture of the agency, the Ministry of Education has purged 600 panel experts associated with item writing, question drafting, and paper moderation. Fresh, thoroughly vetted experts are being onboarded to maintain integrity. Additionally, 20 to 25 new permanent officials will be inducted into the agency within the next two to three weeks.
On the physical security front, the Union Government has directed that NTA offices be shifted to a brand-new facility where CISF personnel will take charge of perimeter security and confidential material handling. This measure guarantees maximum protection against physical breaches or unauthorized access during sensitive examination cycles like NEET-UG, JEE Main, and CUET.
