Kansas City is stepping up to support residents through two employee-led initiatives: a citywide clothing drive and a food drive in partnership with Harvesters. Both efforts come in response to the recent lapse in SNAP benefits and the increased demand for necessities across the region.
City employees are encouraged to donate gently used clothing and shoes, along with non-perishable food items, to help individuals and families experiencing support individuals and families in need during this challenging hardship during this time.
"Kansas City will not stand by while inaction in Washington harms our kids and our families," said Mayor Quinton Lucas. "Clothing and food drives represent our commitment to ensuring no resident goes without essential resources during the SNAP benefit crisis. I'm grateful to our city employees for their generosity and to Harvesters for their partnership. We will continue to lead with compassion and take care of our community, regardless of what happens at the federal level."
The food drive will run from November 5 through December 5, with all donations going to Harvesters to help replenish supplies and serve those affected by the SNAP benefit interruption.
"Kansas City employees have always shown up when our community needs it most. These drives reflect the heart of our organization - people who care deeply about serving others , said City Manager Mario Vasquez. "We are happy to lend a hand and further strengthen the connection between our workforce and the residents we serve every day."
To further assist residents, the City has created an online SNAP Resource Hub with helpful information and support services. Visit KCMO.gov/snap for details.
